Petzl AMGA Scholarship Recipient – Nate Disser of Southwest Adventure Guides, Durango
Petzl is an Official Headlamp Sponsor and a Diamond Sponsor of the AMGA. This elite status allows the opportunity each year to provide two lucky individuals with scholarships. Each Scholarship gives the lucky guide an opportunity to waive the fee for either one Alpine, Rock or Ski Exam. In 2009 Petzl first awarded Caroline George (a regional Petzl athlete) and she passed her Ski exam. The second recipient for the year is Nate Disser, Director and Head Guide of Southwest Adventure Guides (SWAG) in Durango, CO.

Nate is currently an AMGA Certified Rock Guide and is set to take his Alpine Exam September 15 – 26 of this year ( The arrival of his 1 year old delayed the exam almost exactly one year) Some of his personal guiding highlights include successful ascents of the Moose’s Tooth via the Ham n’ Eggs Couloir, the complete West Rib on Denali, and Artesonraju in Peru with blind climber Erik Weihenmeyer.
Since 1989, SWAG has been Durango’s premier source for mountain adventure in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado as well as select destinations worldwide. They offer everything from AIARE Avalanche Courses and Ice Climbing throughout the San Juans (including the Ouray Ice Park where they are 1 of only a few guide services that are permitted to operate in the park and surrounding areas), as well as expeditions to Alaska, Alpine Climbing in the San Juans, and Rock Climbing in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and the Utah Desert.
Sea to Summit new TravellingLight range spotted at ORSM’09
The Sea to Summit new TravellingLight range is a lightweight and stylish solution to luggage organization.
This comprehensive line up of travel accessories provides a convenient way to separately pack clothes, shoes, toiletries, documents and other travel essentials without taking up precious space or tipping the scales towards a hefty airline excess luggage fee.
Start with Less
Whether motivated by the convenience of carry-on, the desire to avoid baggage fees or lost luggage, or simply wanting bags to be easier to manage upon arrival at the destination, travelers today want less weight and less bulk. This doesn’t mean bringing less with you, it means using travel gear that weighs less and takes up less space. The new Sea to Summit Travelling Light range of travel products does just that.
Eighty percent of the products weigh less than 3 ounces!
Using premium Ultra-Sil ripstop fabric and other lightweight materials, the range weighs significantly less than any other competitor’s similar products, without compromising strength or durability.

Both Zipka2 series headlamps feature a thin adjustable and retractable cord for quick and convenient use, whether worn on the head or wrist or hung as a lantern.
“Hats off to Petzl’s R&D team for this impressive range of lights, which integrates the latest in lighting technology,” says Christian Mason, Headlamp Division Manager for Petzl America. “Each of the six models is designed to meet the specific needs of a wide range of customers, from the occasional user to the core climber.”
Tikka2 and Zipka2 series headlamps will arrive in stores September 1st. New, trim packaging gives retailers more efficient and cost-effective shipping and the ability to display a deeper inventory of units and colors. New Tower of Power point-of-purchase displays placed at prominent shops will improve the customer experience with color-coding for easy lamp selection, multiple display options, and a headlamp buyer’s guide – all tools that have proven to increase headlamp sales (for more information on the POP, please contact info@petzl.com).
Further supporting the new line is the launch of an integrated print advertising and web marketing campaign including online video and photo contests with prizes as brilliant as the lights themselves. For more information, visit www.tikka2.com, a dedicated web portal for the new lights.
